The Isle of Wight Ferry (Portsmouth - Fishbourne)

The Isle of Wight is a lovely place to visit and with the crossing from Portsmouth just 45 minutes it is suitable to travel to for either a few days or a longer holiday.

Well marked from all the major routes into Portsmouth. The ferry loading area is quite small and at they moment they don't like you to arrive more than 1 hour earlier than your booked time. There is parking opposite (pay and display) if you haven't booked a ferry and want to go in and see if there is space available.

Loading is quick and easy. Simply follow directions and the marked lanes and you can't go wrong. You are not allowed to stay in your vehicle on this ferry but there are lovely comfortable areas, both inside and on deck, for you to have a drink and relax as you travel.

The arrival port of Fishbourne is on the north coast, near to Ryde, all major towns are easily reached from there.

Other crossings available via:

Lymington to Yarmouth

Southampton - Cowes

Using Ferries:

Scottish Island Ferries

We have travelled around some of the western islands of scotland using Caladonian MacBrayne.

The shorter crossings are usually the type where you stay in your vehicle during the crossing. Although there is usually a small seating area and cafe plus space to walk around the deck, albeit amongst the other vehicles.

Crossings between Dunoon and Gourock take around 20 minutes and take you right onto the Cowal Peninsula -the gateway to Loch Lomond and the Troassachs National Park and the way forward to destinations such as Tighnabruaich, Inveraray, Kintyre and Oban.

Gourock is about 45 minutes drive from Glasgow.
