Ladies Meet, Buxton Caravan Club Site, Grin Low - 10th-12th May 2013
Well, some of the ladies of the forum joined forces to have the forum's first Ladies' meet and what a great time we had too!
With a little help, I erected a large Khyam tent next to my little van for us to use as a meeting point, put out a table, some chairs, glasses, a bottle or two and a BIG container of home-made cakes (Shh! Don't tell you know who) and then waited with a fair degree of trepidation to see who would be brave enough to face the appalling weather that had been forecast. I shouldn't have worried - we had an almost complete turnout, which was lovely.
Von and Cheryl were the first hardy souls to arrive on Friday afternoon, shortly joined by the others: Jackie, Caz, Pat, Liz, and Jenny. We collected in the tent around six pm and enjoyed some excellent fish and chips, provided by the van that had called in at the site, and a few drinks, cakes and biscuits. Conversation covered many topics and there was a lot of raucous laughter! When the cold and wind became unbearable, finding its way through the extra blankets that were produced, people reluctantly retreated to the warmth of their vans.
On Saturday, the more energetic went rambling with their dogs, some geocaching too. Others of us happily socialised in one of the vans, deeming the weather conditions too bad to venture out too far. To our delight, Jayjay and her friend Linda turned up mid-afternoon, spending a happy hour or two chatting, eating and drinking.
In the evening, we went to the Duke of York pub on the A515, for a pre-booked meal, a few drinks and a lot of laughs. Sunday provided us with yet more time for chatting, local walks, etc. before the majority bid their reluctant goodbyes. A few of us stayed one more night, hoping that the horrendous weather would ease off a little for our journeys home - it didn't!
Despite the appalling weather, we all had had a really great weekend. Thank you, ladies, for such a fun weekend. I can't wait for the next one!
Thanks to NomadSue for sending this meet report and for successfully organising the Forum's very first Ladies Meet.
