Jervaulx Abbey, North Yorks. May 2016

Seventeen units and 27 members met at the Jervaulx Abbey in North Yorkshire, the meet was organised by Alison (ajtyorks) who was ably assisted by Tom (Diggdeep).

We arrived to be welcome by Tom who had put signs up to guide us to the camping field and marked out all the pitches, we were also presented with signs for our names, Yorkshire flags and a welcome cup cake.

Pamsicle had a bit of misfortune on the way when the wheel of her Romini came off and decided to go a different way to Pam, help was soon at hand with Tom, Jim (twolitre) and a friendly roadside worker, Pam's wheel was found in a field and a garage soon sorted it out for her so she could resume her journey and arrive on site, we were all thankful that she was still in one piece!

On Friday evening we all got together and had a wine and cheese evening, as usual there was far too much but it made a lovely spread and people were soon renewing acquaintances with old friends or making new ones. Sadly it rained later which curtailed the evening festivities somewhat but not before lots of wine and cheese had been drunk and eaten.

On Saturday a large group had a walk down the river to the pub, whilst others had a walk, a drive out or just relaxed on site. Pauline and Graham along with John and Wendy went a walk and got wet through when a heavy shower appeared but after deciding to come back to the site the weather quickly changed again to bright warm sunshine which enabled us to dry our clothes.

In the evening a large group had a tour around the Abbey and learnt a lot about the history from the owner, later we went to the Tea Rooms for a meal of Lasagne, followed by a rather nice treacle tart, we were able to enjoy the room until 8.30 which was nice to relax and chat.

Sunday it was time to say goodbye for some who had to get off home or to other campsites but a small group remained for another day to soak up the sunshine.

All in all it was a lovely meet and many thanks to Alison for finding the venue and arranging the meal and of course Tom for his warm Yorkshire welcome.

Members attending in no particular order were: Alison (ajtyorks), Tom and Denise (Diggdeep), Graham and Pauline, Pam (Pamsicle), Mary and John (Vanderell and JohnF), Malcolm and Jackie (Orangevan), Wendy and John, Myke and Rita, Angela (MsWanderer), Pauline and David (Polly7), Jim (Twolitre), Brenda and Colin (Joycet), Bernard (Organgrinder), Dave (buzzndave), Joan and Appie (Lunnie), Sally and Richard (Sally2cv), Phil (Teloupee).
