I've had a few spells away solo with my bike - in fact last summer I did 3 weeks in France solo+bike+guitar and visited a life-long school/music/cycling friend and his wife whilst there.

In fact I did imply in a post last July (I think) that I was permanently 'solo', but to put the records straight things were sorted out and Pat (my wife) and I are planning much Romahoming in the future. I hasten to add that the solo-camping did not have any connection.

I find that the Romahome provides the perfect setting for being alone with one's own personal interests.

It may be the same with other sports, but certainly with cycling it is not unusual for one partner to be involved on his/her own. I cycled with a group twice a week when I retired 7 years ago, and went on several short camping and hostelling tours. Then for 3 years running I went on tour, cycling, with a mixed group of 10 or so to France and all points east to Bratislava. It was kind of normal. So to continue camping on my own in my Hylo is not so strange for me.

Default Solo Camping

Delighted to find that I am not the only solo camper. Would love to hear if anyone has one of the R 10 camper vans and has experience of travelling alone. Would be interested in meeti ng up with any solo campers in the future.
Going to Glastonbury this year. Have a really useful festivals in Britain book with all the details.

Im usually a solo camper (well plus one or both of my dogs too) when I bought my Bongo it was intended to give me and my family weekends away, sadly I had left it too late and my two kids were getting to the stage where it was uncool to go anywhere with mum n dad.We did go away once as a family... a weekend in Bala,Wales where it absolutely bounced it down with rain on us.We were flooded out (a great start to family camping!
I had always wanted to try a campervan got the chance to have one and love it all.My missus isnt a camper and would much rather stay in BB or hotels than a "cramped cold camper" so I am usually on my own,not a problem as we believe absence makes the heart grow fonderI have to have my regular FREEDOM fix !!

I'm also a solo Roma. I've never been lonely on C&cc temporary sites. It's great to have a few days somewhere and move on. I often get lost when travelling so bought myself a Sat nav from Morrisons for £60 only tested it once but seemed ok. I hope to get to Wolverley to meet everyone.

I really must look through the WHOLE forum and discussion sections more often!!

Due the recent situation, I am now a SoloRoma too........

Buzz isnt quite ship shape at the moment, but her state doesnt really bother me much and have planned on disappearing for a couple of 'overnighters' somewhere...

I love Newquay, and we used to go there several time of year, all together, so it will probably be quite ;different' for me the first time i go there though!!

Kinda looking forward to it though....

I will take pix etc when i get round to it!!

I camp solo more often than not. I suppose it depends what i intend to do with the days....if I'm walking or cycling then my wife can't do the distances I want to do (or doesn't want to). If I'm painting or photographing things it can be tedious for a companion having to just kill time and so it suits me to be on my own. If we go away together then things are completely different and it's something we both want to do. Most likely thats touring and visiting interesting places.Certain sites I use for walking/cycling are likely to have a relatively high proportion of people on their own, for the same reasons. I never get bored as there is never enough time. Occasionally, after a long days walking, I'll just watch a DVD or the TV, as a means of relaxing. I actually enjoy being on my own and in some parts of the country may not see anyone else for long periods of time.

I also camp alone - apart from the dog. My husband stays home and looks after the other dog and the chickens etc. He came with me to the IOW 18 months ago and enjoyed it but I haven't been able to get him out again.

Good for you, novalight. There are a few of us around. I was pitched next to a chap in a small caravan in Ireland in April. He liked walking. And near to another in a trailer-tent a few days ago on the Eskdale site in the Lake district. We were both there for a few nights, inevitably got chatting when passing on site, and went for a pint on my last evening there only to find out that our lives had taken very similar paths in other respects. No big deal, but it certainly serves to make the point that solo camping is better than not going at all if one of you likes the outdoor life.

It is probably something to do with the size of Romahomes but at the recent Roma Club Meet almost a third of the 100 plus vans were solo campers.
