Hi Brian,
I have successfully joined the new companions club, they have loads of meets for single campers, I am going to try for the Bladon Chains at end of August, and tomorrow I will consult my diary and book as many as I can fit in.
They really do look /sound brilliant for lone campers like us.

NO, absolutely not.no couples allowed, no partners etc, Singles only, it is not a dating agency or marriage brokerage.
really singles and pets, thats it.
look them up on google.I thought it looked like fun, and I am a solo camper.
Ian

p.s Forgot to say - they have meets every week throughout the season from Lands End to the Highlands and Islands, and Welsh Wales to cross eyed Norfolk. They also organise meets abroad, especially December/January, when its cold here.

That sounds good to me then! Might even come along one day, you never know. At the moment, I can't go anywhere. Got one holiday planned at the end of June, and that's it for now. Spent so much doing that darned caravan up, and sorting the car that I've no extra left over money to go camping with! LOL!!

No doubt it will sort itself out by next year.

It never ceases to amaze me just how many different groups there are within the camping organisations. There is something to suit everyone, there is no need to ever stay at home and there is no shortage of new hobbies or interests to have a go at or not as is your want.

Themes range from Singing, dancing, sailing, unit type, walking, singles, families, re-enactments, convoys, painting, geocaching etc etc.........

We have found some really great company on the rallies we have attended and you can be as involved or private as you want.

Just hope the weather perks up for this weekend and will be off to the Out and About pages if it is not going to be floods everywhere. If too wet then next week will do instead.

Happy camping.

I am a member of new companions and have done a few trips with them.In fact just returned from the Hebrides which was fantastic. There were 16 vans most of whom were doing the 6 week Scottish tour working their way up the West coast and islands then along the North coast before tuning South along the East coast.I only joined them for 8 days.
You can join the New Companions if you camp alone. however the club does have a few couples who met on club meets and are still members. There is another singles camping group called the Phoenix club which does not allow any couples.

I have a number of friends and some family that keep telling me I should join a cycling club blah not me I much prefer riding on my own or walking even on my own. Though I do have to say that my girlfriend likes to camp and very much enjoy her company with me but she gets me and gets why I like doing things like that solo. To be honest soon as I can save up the cash I am planning though haven't yet decided if I am gonna walk or ride my bicycle around the country but either one that is the plan for me. I am leaning more towards walking though getting into areas ya just can't see even with a bike. Yeah sure may be slower but that's the mode I like.

Being retired and sadly, widowed, I thought The New Companions Club sounded like a promising organisation, but the result from Google seems to imply that it is a motorhome orientated club. For various reasons I do not want a motorhome. Instead I use my Romini towed by my much loved classic car (one of the reasons I don't want a motorhome). Are there other trailer caravans in this club?

I dont think its only for motor caravans, but I suggest you phone Carol sullivan the club secretary. I have sent you A private message with her phone number.

Hi Twolitre,
new companions is not just for motorhomers. You can use anyform of camping equipment. On my first trip I was told about a lady who came alone on a bus and used a tent. not met her yet but just shows anything goes.I have also met many disabled or elderly folks who have electric buggies and zimmer frames. I so admire them and hope that if I have mobility problems I will still be out there in my van.

Totally agree, if those elderly folk, and I have met a few, can cope with lifes slingshots and arrows - then what,I thought,am I complaining for!
They are inspiring, if them then perhaps me!
Onward and upward, even if the climb puffs me out, ho ho ho.
Go for it Jim.
