    Default Freeborn changes hands

Has anyone noticed, according to MMM, that Freeborn Guildford and Southampton, have changed ownership? Anyone know any more about it? Graham (and Carole)

No I didn't know anything about this but it looks like they are now called Wilmoths.

Doing this on the phone is difficult. I managed to delete rather than edit my typo. Let's try again.

Reading the small print on their site they say they are

Freeborn Motorhomes Ltd trading as Wilmoths Motorhomes

I had a look at the section of vans starting from £12, 999 and then when I went into it the first one was £90,000 and so on right down to £12,999.

Scary stuff, the price of a van

I did a quick search on this, and as far as I could see Wilmoths is part of the 'Freeborn Group' .

I would think the staff would probably be the same Mark, it sounds like it's still Freeborn but using a different name for some reason.

The loss of the Freeborn name is a shame. I'd always considered BrianTheSnail to be

Wilmoths are a garage group in Sussex with at least 2 showrooms, one at Willingbury on the road to Eastbourne. That branch, at present, deals in Citroen cars. I rather have the impression that Wilmoths have bought up Freeborn. Graham (and Carole)

I'm a bit confused with this, this is the website page which I thought implied that Freeborn might be the overall owners, not sure what to think really!

    http://www.freeborngroup.co.uk/about-us/
If you scroll down and read the financial disclosure at the bottom right of the page it almost gives the impression that Freeborn owns Wilmoths, perhaps they always have? As I said, I'm confused!

Even more confused now! This is the Wilmoths site and their financial declaration at the bottom left seems to imply that Freeborn is the finance/ credit provider. I think.

Right I think have puzzled this out now but it’s VERY confusing to stick with me!

WIlmoths is an established car dealership group specialising in Citroen and DS vehicles but sell some other marques as well. They have been trading under the name of Wilmoths since 1990. As Graham has summised, It appears that they bought Freeborn in March of this year and are in the process of absorbing all their sites and businesses in to their own group. http://www.automarketdata.com/tag/jarretts-motors-ltd/
To add to the confusion, Wilmoths is only a trading name, the actual registered company is called Jarrets Motors Ltd………………

To really add to the confusion, the company number listed for Freeborn motorhomes, when entered in to companies house, brings up the name Standset Ltd. I think that name is familiar, weren’t Romahome controlled by Standset at one point?

Anyway, ignoring all the trading names and wot not, the basics of it are WIlmoths have purchard Freeborn to create one very large chain of Car Dealerships in the South and South East. As Romahome (as in the people who actually produce the campers on the IOW) is no longer owned by Freeborn, we must assume that they are not connected to the deal in any way and that the former Freeborn motorhome dealerships will be rebranded as Wilmoths but carry on much as they have before.

I think the various websites haven’t been fully updated since the takeover, I would guess that references to Freeborn will start to disappear in due course.

I don't the takeover of Freeborns will change things very much. It seems the sale happened back in March and it's only come to light now so i wouldn't expect any radical differences other than the name over the door.

As Rob says probably just a change of owners. The previous directors quite likely wanted to retire from Freeborn due to age. Some might have preferred to change direction rather than carry on with the new directors.

We still have a month or so of our year's guarantee from Freeborne to run, so we hope nothing has changed regarding that, should (perish the thought!) anything happens to our Romahome Lo during that time!
We aren't keen on all these changes, and everyone at Southampton Freeborne was so helpful and pleasant to deal with...

Well we've just had a couple of cold calls from Wilmoths because, I suspect, we were on the Freeborn calling list. Didn't get the details as neither call was at a time that was convenient for me to be on the phone.

What I find amazing is that this group is almost certainly one of the largest groups for the owners of Romahomes and other motorhomes on the web and no-one from Wilmoths/Freeborn seems to be monitoring it and commenting. Had I time on the cold call I would have suggested that they might like to take a look here.
