    Default Flier from Wilmoths

I've come to this thread as a result of just having received (personally addressed, postal delivery) a flyer from Wilmoths - of whom I had never heard - inviting me to a bank-holiday weekend 'Sale Event'. It mentions only cars: no mention of any motorhomes at all!

    The flyer states:
"Earlier this year, Wilmoths Group of seven Citroen and DS car dealerships in Kent and Sussex acquired the Freeborn Group. The dealer ships now have new leaders drawn from within the old team [ambiguous as to whether this refers to the old Freeborn team of the old Wilmoths team!] and driven very much by the Wilmoths Group ethos of customer service.
"What has changed is the increased customer focus ..."

The Freeborn website (http://www.freeborngroup.co.uk/) leads directly to a Wilmoths home page. Although that page does include logos for "Motorhomes and Romahome Centre" and "Romahome Special Vehicle Projects", it has no other mention of motorhomes apart from a pen-ultimate paragraph stating:
“Wilmoths Group also embraces motorhome dealerships in Southampton and Godalming offering new motorhomes from Auto-Trail, Devon Conversions, Elddis, Le Voyageur, Pilote, Romahome, and Tribute and a wide selection of pre-owned motorhomes and campervans across a wide choice of sizes and budgets.”

The fact that they only have motorhomes at the two, newly acquired, Freeborn locations rather suggests that they have no past experience of dealing in motorhomes. That seems to be confirmed by Wilmoths’ own website, the front page of which contains no mention at all of motorhomes - nor of the two newly acquired Freeborn locations!

We bought our R30 from Freeborn in 2014. Altho’ we were very happy with the service initially, over the past 18 months we have become increasingly unhappy with them, to the extent that when our service contract expired earlier this year, and we were faced with a decision as to whether to renew it, we decided to look elsewhere for future servicing & habitation checks. We’ve found that we can get better – and less expensive – service at a more local, family-run motorhome dealer, even tho’ they don’t specialise in Romahomes. Now that Freeborn has been acquired by a dealer with no motorhome experience, we’re glad we made that choice!

Freeborn used to monitor our forum AndrewJones was a fairly frequent contributor with updates and news of Romahomes, sadly it seems Wilmot's aren't so interested.

    Default Freeborn Changes Hands

    Hi Everybody

Has been a while since I have posted but I follow the forum and always enjoy the content.

Having read the latest post I thought it was worth perhaps clarifying the situation.

    First the confusing bit.
Freeborn Garages Ltd, Freeborn Motorhomes Ltd and the holding company Standset were all acquired by Jarrett Motors in February this year. Jarret Motors trade as Wilmoths and are a very established and highly regarded motor group in the South East with 7 Citroen & DS outlets. The Freeborn companies still exist as legal entities and simply trade as Freeborn Motorhomes Trading as Wilmoths etc.

Wilmoths have a real passion towards customer care and the acquisition of the Freeborn Group now makes Wilmoths the largest privately owned Citroen dealer in the UK. Although Wilmoths have not had experience of the motorhome business it is viewed with excitement and the managing director Mr James Wilmoth has taken motorhomes away for a few weekends and has really enjoyed the experience. A very large number of the staff you know are still working within the group so you will see plenty of familiar faces.

With all acquisitions there is always lots to do so I apologise for the lack of communication. In the motor business the website is always a point of reference for customers to see what is happening. We have been working on a new “wilmoths.co.uk” website which would include all the dealerships but this has been delayed and will not be ready until late September. We took the decision to keep the Freeborn Group site live until the new site was ready as we clearly need to continue doing business. Any announcements or press releases were always planned when the new site went live. We were able to change the new motorhome website to Wilmoths motorhomes as this was already under development late in 2016 ready for the 2017 season.

In terms of Romahome, I am still in regular contact with Brian and Dan on the IOW. We are planning to meet soon to discuss some of the ideas and plans Brian and Dan have for the brand. I have been a huge fan of Romahome from the first time I joined the company back in 2009 and share the same passion as all of you for its continuing journey.

In closing I think all I can add is, it’s business as usual at Wilmoths.

Please feel free to email me (chris.healy@wilmoths.co.uk) if you have any questions and if anybody is attending the Malvern show this weekend please feel free to come and have a cup of tea!

    Chris
