    Default Extended habitation warranty....

Graham is this the correct area?
I have had several serious problems with habitation issues on a dealer special, now only 15 months old. After many emails and phone calls I have joined "Which Legal" £30 and also contacted Caravan Club legal help line, who have both offered very good consumer advice. Clearly my problems were covered within the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which puts the retailer in the firing line. The problem is "they" hope you will just get fed up and go away. I didn't and am awaiting a new shower tray being fitted!! Manufacturers only cover same and many other item for a period of 12 months. Are there any extended warranty plans you can purchase that are actually offered by "credible" companies. I might add "not" sold by motorhome retailers. For example removing a shower tray from a combined WC shower space is a considerable amount of work, remove Thetford toilet, remove basin cupboard unit etc, to get tothe very lightweight plastic tray that is supposed to double as a floor!! Not a 5 minute job! Suggestions please.

I've bought my last two secondhand vans from Marquis and they came with a "free" 3 year warranty - it covers repairs up to the purchase price for the first year but drops to max £1,000 for the second year then only £500 for year 3.

It's underwritten by Global Insurance Management Ltd, 7th Floor, Eaton House, 1 Eaton Road, Coventry CV1 2FJ Tel No 02476 527815

I've no idea whether they do individual policies or how much they cost.

They have coughed up for quite a few repairs on my vans with no quibbles:

Sundance - cupboard hinge broke, fridge gas knob broke, habitation door lock broke, damp found around side locker door and had to be dried out & re-sealed, toilet seal went and had to be replaced.

T4 Trooper - fridge electric element had to be replaced, eberspacher heater stopped working - Marquis couldn't deal with that, had to go to a local specialist. They paid 80% of total charge £699 because some of it was wear and tear as it had never been serviced properly and my man wanted to replace some bits that weren't broken with new bits.

All in all, I think they have been very good.

Thanks Caz, I will give them a call. Because shower trays seem Not to be fitted properly they give problems and the underwriters and manufacturers will only cover them for 1 year. That's no life in a motorhome!! It can't be that hard to fit one properly, our Autosleeper Symbol was no trouble, but that was on a 2008 plate, the build was better in those days, I know that from experience. In fact I've looked at the 2016 Symbol and they are not a patch on the one we owned. Still let's hope our bathroom floor is modified and the new tray is fitted correctly. I know the hole below the waste is far to large and there is no support for the plastic, hence the reason it's cracked nearly all the way around.
