All pub meal places have gone, all electric have gone, there are only 9 non electric pitches left, first come first served, don't miss out!

Messing about with my PC yesterday I found it was possible, using "Ground Level" option on Google Earth, to "walk" up the Caen Locks - one of the wonders of the canals. Fascinating, and making me even more determined to attend the meet. Well........................... it is ONLY 170 miles from home for a day or two!
Having said that I would welcome any tips on other places/things to visit in the area.

Jim there a lot of nice places to visit within approx 20miles, Avebury in one direction, Bath and Salisbury plus Salisbury Plain and Stonehenge. You can visit Wadworth brewery in Devizes on some days and it is lovely market town. I have booked the Thursday Night at the Devizes C &CC site which is literally next door. They still have a market on Thursday. So there would be plenty to see and do if you wanted to come for a few extra days.
    Hope this helps
    Gill

Whilst we're talking about places to go - don't forget Avebury, England's biggest stone circle, and Avebury Manor, now open to visitors. If you're into canals, as well as the Kennet and Avon, the Wilts and Berks canal has some stretches now back 'in water', have a look on their website. if you like waterside walks there's a lovely riverside walk in Melksham, only a couple of miles from the campsite. Melksham is worth a visit anyway with its pleasant town square and High Street, still having lots of independent shops, then you can take a walk in St. George's Park and follow the river Avon footpath from there. Wander back into town for a slap-up tea in the Art House Cafe: an art gallery featuring the works of local arts and crafts folk, where you can enjoy a sumptuous snack, meal or tea/coffee/cake, sold in aid of local charities. (Limited opening hours as run largely by volunteers.)

Back in Devizes, The Roundway Down Hillfort is worth a visit, too:

Jim, you will want to stay longer than a couple of days in this delightful area, there is so much to see!

Thanks folks. I think I wll check out other campsites in the area for a day or two either side of the "meet" to make my roundtrip even more worthwhile.

I think I might do the same and stay a bit longer! Thanks for the heads up on this one.
This is providing all goes ok with the parents and I can come in the first place! I can't plan anything that far in advance these days, just in case. But I am hopeful that I will be able to make it.

Graham, I'm really sorry but I'm going to have to cancel as our daughter has asked us to house and animal sit and the time overlaps.

I know that our electric hook up and meal places won't go to waste though as I know there are some on a waiting list so that's some consolation.

Hi Graham and Pauline, just to say I have booked EHU, and I am happy with this, but if there is anyone else who needs it rather than me, I can manage without it as I now have my solar panel.
    Hope this make sense!!
