Head for Ullapool and get on the CalMac ferry to the Western Isles!
Site info: Not bad considering it's a long way off the mainland! Small washrooms with two sinks, 2 loos and one shower per ladies and gents. Good facilities for washing up, even cooking a meal on their cooker and small indoor seating area/lounge. There's an old fashioned mangle to wring out your washing! Ground level and easy to pitch tents, very windy though (take storm straps and delta pegs! Beach a 'good' mile away and I would consider wild camping nearer the beach for a few days with hindsight. There is a local pub but it was shut for refurbishing when we were there. A small shop about half a mile away. Good dog walk down a hillside. The worst thing was the shower, which was 20p for 2 minutes, so around £1.20 for a half decent shower, which was not mentioned on the website. Nice friendly people and campsite popular and pretty busy, yet it didn't seem cramped. Photo taken from: Eilean Frioch on Lewis, (click picture for a larger image) | ||
